ERUF to celebrate 25 years

THE Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) will celebrate its 25th founding anniversary on Sept. 11 with a fun run, demonstration of ERUF’s capability and awards night.

President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is the guest of honor. He was invited to witness ERUF’s capability of saving life through emergency medical service competence, rescue ability and fire fighting techniques.

The rescue, fire fighting and emergency medical services demonstration will be held at the Mandaue Reclamation Area. It is open to the public.

The fun run will start at 5:30 a.m., followed by the exercise.

“We will show how we help save lives during the past 25 years. We are inviting everyone to witness the simulation exercise for them to know our world class capabilities,” said Dr. Pek Eng T. Lim, chairman of ERUF board of directors.

Also expected to attend the affair are Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Local Government Secretary Jessie Robredo, Health Secretary Enrique Ona, Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Eduardo Oban Jr., Dutch Ambassador to the Philippines Robert Brinks, Mayor Theo Weterings of Haarlemmermeer, the Netherlands, representatives from the National Disaster Risk Reduction Council and local officials.

ERUF is a non-government organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

It started in September 1986 with less than 60 member volunteers composed of medical professionals, civic-oriented individuals and former members of Mandaue Emergency Rescue Unit.
