Flounder fish seen on surface water of Manila Bay; dredging blamed
MANILA, Philippines—Flounder fish have come out on the surface of water in Manila Bay.
Fishermen in Cavite have alerted authorities about this phenomenon.
They say the fish, locally known as ‘isdang dapa,’ are being driven further from seabed of the bay due to dredging and other reclamation projects in the area.
“Other types of demersal fishes, as well as coral reefs in the province, are also under threat because of dredging-related pollution and stressors,” said Pamalakaya.
The group has recorded an 80% decline in the average fish catch in the coastal waters off Cavite since dredging operations began in 2021.
