MANILA, Philippines— President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. hopes to attend the 2023 United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference or the Conference of Parties (COP) in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this December.
UAE Ambassador Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqataam Alzaabi extended an invitation to him.
During the cordial meeting, the President and envoy discussed the Philippines’ efforts to combat climate change.
“I hope to be able to attend because climate change is a primordial issue when it comes to the Philippines,” Marcos remarked in an ambush interview at Edsa Shangri-la in Mandaluyong city.
He added, “beyond the conference of parties is that we also want to renew our ties with the UAE.”
The President also emphasized the presence of Filipinos in the UAE as another reason to take the trip to the Middle East.
“Ang daming Pilipino doon. Kaya’t kailangan makatiyak tayo na patuloy ang kanilang magandang pagtrato sa ating mga kababayan sa UAE,” Marcos explained.
(There are many Filipinos there. So we have to make sure that their good treatment of our fellow Filipinos in UAE continues.)
The President observed how Filipinos’ employers in the UAE have been generally behaving.
He said, “they have been very welcoming. They have treated our people very well. They have protected them and allowed them to make a living in the United Arab Emirates.”
