Bongbong Marcos visits Albay evacuation centers amid Mayon’s unrest

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ruth Castelo on Tuesday assured the residents of Albay that there is no need to panic buy goods amid the Mayon Volcano’s unrest.

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday visited two evacuation centers in Albay as the Mayon volcano’s activity continues.

The Chief Executive went to the evacuation centers in Guinobatan Community College in Guinobatan municipality and San Jose Elementary School in Malilipot town.

Local government officials also briefed the President on the situation of residents while he was in Albay astrodome in Legazpi city.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Mayon remains on Alert Level 3 as of Wednesday morning.

Albay Governor Edcel Greco Lagman had widened the volcano’s danger zone to a seven-kilometer radius.

He also told the people to prepare for evacuation at any time.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported at least 14,000 persons in Albay had been evacuated due to the possibility of a volcanic eruption.
