MANILA, Philippines — The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will lead the government’s celebration of the 125th Philippine Independence Day on Monday with various activities throughout the country.
The president, Senate president, House speaker, chief justice, and department secretaries usually attend the traditional simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies that will be held in the country’s historical places on Monday morning.
The ceremonies will be held at the Rizal Monument in Manila; the Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion in Manila North Cemetery, Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite; Barasoain Church in Malolos City, Bulacan; Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City; Pinaglabanan Shrine in San Juan City; Museo ng Kasaysayang Panlipunan ng Pilipinas in Angeles City; Plaza Independencia in Cebu City; and Peace Monument in Davao City.
The NHCP said a civic-military parade dubbed “Parada ng Kalayaan” will also be held at Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park on Monday morning.
The traditional vin d’honneur reception will also be held in Malacañang led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the papal nuncio, who is the concurrent dean of the diplomatic corps.
The theme of this year’s Independence Day observance is Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan (Freedom, Future, History).
As the country marks Independence Day, progressive groups led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) will stage various protests at the Chinese and US consulates here.
Mong Palatino, the spokesperson for Bayan, said the protests sought to denounce the “inter-imperialist conflict between the United States and China … which has dragged the Philippines into a situation detrimental to its national interest.”
