Telco engages kids in save planet Earth campaign

IN time for the worldwide Earth Hour commemoration, Smart Communications Inc. engaged the children in a day of outdoor activities.

“We’d like children to appreciate nature more, and help them realize the importance of taking care of our planet Earth,” said lawyer Jane Paredes, Smart’s Public Affairs head for Visayas and Mindanao.

“This is in sync with Smart’s ‘Live More’ message.”

Together with the Cebu City Councilor Nida Cabrera, Smart gathered the young ones at the Plaza Independencia in Cebu City for a pre-Earth Hour program.

The children played and roamed around with Smart pro-environment mascots Gorio and Flora. They were also given prizes and goodie bags.

Aside from fun games and other outdoor activities, Smart also held a learning session where the children were taught simple things they can do to help save the environment.

Smart also explained to the children the significance of the Earth Hour celebration — why is it important to participate in the worldwide lights-off movement and do good deeds for the environment, even beyond Earth Hour.

Smart has been supporting  the Earth Hour celebration in the country led by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines every March by switching off lights in its offices and its billboards to help save the planet.
