Kadaugan fest: TV actors, party in Lapu streets

TV actors will lead this year’s cast of the “Kadaugan sa Mactan” on April 27 at the Liberty Shrine also known as the Mactan Shrine.

The Kadaugan reenactment will also kick off the two-day Kadaugan street party

Actor Richard Quan will play Datu Lapu-Lapu, a role played by world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao in 2008 and actor Phillip Salvador in 2009, during the upcoming reenactment.

Quan is one of the actors of GMA-7’s show “Ikaw Sana.”

Singer-actress Geneva Cruz will play Reyna Bulakna, Lapu-Lapu’s wife, and actor Patrick Garcia will portray Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan.

Councilor Harry Radaza said the city government hired Manila actors in the Kadaugan for 12 years to attract a national audience to the event.

Friday’s reenactment will also kick off the two-day Kadaugan street party to be held at one side of the ML Quezon Highway.

The Lapu-Lapu city government will close one side of the highway on April 27 and April 28 for the street party activities.

Radaza, chairman of the tourism committee, said the city would be expecting thousands of visitors to join and watch the Kadaugan activities.

Radaza said the city government allocated P1.2 million for the activities.

Radaza said the Lapu-Lapu city government already set up facilities and held information drive on the traffic rerouting scheme for the closure of one side of the highway, the stretch from the first Mandaue-Lapu-Lapu Bridge to the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.

Bleachers are built at the City Hall grounds to accommodate more audience for the street party.

Radaza said a 360-degree stage measuring 40×40 feet would be set up.

Street party activities on April 27 will include boxing matches, street dance competition, Let’s Share TV’s Wet T-shirt party with DJs from Europe, Carnival and Midnight Beer Run.

On April 28, more boxing matches, a car show and a car audio parade and the KSP “Rampada,” street entertainment, live performances at the 360-degree stage, fireworks and the Rampada after party are scheduled.

Councilor Radaza also said that the city would also set up 11 mini stages on the stretch of highway and set up big screens showing a video of the Kadaugan sa Mactan reenactment a day earlier.

Hembler Mendoza, tourism commissioner of Lapu-Lapu City, arranged with hotels and resorts to sponsor nightly activities with food festivals from April 18 to April 26 at the Liberty Shrine.

At the City Hall grounds, Jimmy Clomar of the Lapu-Lapu City cooperative will hold nightly entertainment, food and trade fair sponsored by the gay and women sectors from April 23 to April 26.

Lapu-Lapu City police chief Rey Lyndon Lawas assured an average of 100 security personnel would be deployed to secure the activities.
