Foreign aid group backs quake recovery efforts

Fighting hunger worldwide” is a motto that the World Food Programme (WFP) works and lives by.

If one’s hunger is appeased, one’s depression gets a little brighter.

The WFP did just that. It did not only provide biscuits to the victims of 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Negros Oriental, but also donate two generator sets and tents to assist in the recovery process, which the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas is trying to fast track.

A deed of donation was signed by WFP Country Director Stephen Anderson and DSWD-7 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre.

“We know the region is in for a long road to recovery but we laud the region on how the situation was handled from day 1.

The generators would help the agency (DSWD) a lot in its recovery efforts and this is the least we can do,” said Anderson.

Macapobre assured WFP that the generators and tents will be maintained.

Joseph Gandionco of Julie’s Bakeshop also turned over more than P300,000 for the children of Mindanao, where WFP is conducting a feeding program.
