Motorbike smashup  in San Fernando

A  motorcycle collided with a six-wheeler truck in San Fernando town, southern Cebu, killing a 20-year-old bike passenger and injuring his brother and a companion.

John Rommel Larobis, 20, of Carcar town did not make it alive when he was brought to the South General Hospital (SGH) in Naga City last Sunday.

His 21-year-old brother Elmer and a  companion Bryan Librea  survived.

Both vehicles were heading to Cebu City when the truck driver, Mierto Joselito Balleno, 38, saw a man on a black XRM motorcycle chasing Elmer’s motorcycle in barangay Sangat, San Fernando.

Elmer  turned left at a corner and later returned to the highway when he collided with the truck, which was loaded with fish to be delivered to Pasil in Cebu City.

Police said Elmer lost control of the motorcycle, hit the truck and crashed.

Backrider  John Rommel was thrown off and landed on the pavement.

The man who was chasing them fled and disappeared.

Police said Balleno, who is detained  at the San Fernando police station, paid for the hospital expenses of the three men and the funeral expenses of John Rommel./CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL

Habal-Habal driver killed

A 21-year-old habal-habal driver was shot dead in barangay Adlaon, Cebu City.

Police investigation showed that two men flagged down the victim, Eric Tarroja, a barangay resident.

As soon as he  stopped his motorbike, one of the assailants approached and poked a gun at the victim.

Bursts of gunfire were  heard.

Witnesses said the perpetrators drove away using the victim’s motorcycle.

Tarroja’s  relatives said  P3,000 cash in  his pocket was missing./correspondent chito ragon

Bolo attack in tabuelan

A couple was badly wounded when their  neighbor attacked them with a bolo in their home in barangay Dalid, Tabuelan, north Cebu, last Sunday.

Emmanuel Valleser and his wife Elizabeth are recuperating in a Cebu City hospital for hack wounds in the body.

Their attacker was a  brother-in-law, Roquillo Montera, who surrendered to a barangay tanod.

Police said the couple was celebrating their son’s birthday with neighbors  when Emmanuel asked Roquillo’s daughter to buy  tuba or coconut wine.

Emmanuel reprimanded the child since it took some time before she returned.

The 12-year-old girl reported to her father, who angrily confronted Emmanuel.

A quarrel  took place leading to  the bolo attack. Police said Roquillo, who is detained in the Tabuelan police station, said he is willing to reach an amicable settlement with the couple.

He said he was  tipsy when the violence  happened.

Police recovered the 10-inch bolo and a one-meter bamboo stick from Roquillo’s possession. / CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
