2 explosive fight cards to unravel this weekend

Cebu boxing fans can look forward to not just one but two explosive fight cards this coming weekend.

The Peñalosa brothers, Dodie Boy Jr. and Dave, will see action this Saturday at the Mandaue City Sports Complex. Dodie Boy Jr. will face his third foreign opponent in Indonesian veteran Alex Buckie.

Buckie (13W-25L-6D, 7 KOs) fought for the Pan-Asian Boxing Association (PABA) bantamweight title in his last fight but lost a unanimous decision to Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat of Thailand.

Peñalosa Jr. (8W-0L, 8 KOs) stopped Thailander Superjames Singmanasak in a single round in Caloocan City last January. He knocked out his first foreign opponent, Kong Kiatpratcha of Thailand in three rounds last August at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.

Dave Peñalosa will face Jomar Torreon in a four rounder. He was initially reported to be fighting JR Salvador. This will be Dave’s third pro fight. He also fought in Caloocan last January and scored a second round TKO win over Rey Colambot.

Penalosa Jr. will be spearheading a press preview this Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Cebu City Sports Center while the event’s final presscon which will be attended by Buckie and the rest of the boxers who will be fighting in the undercard will be held at the Mandaue City Hall at 10 a.m.

Official weigh-in is slated this Friday at the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) office.

Also seeing action are Philippine featherweight champion Michael Fareñas, who will face battle-tested Jayson Egera of Siaton in a non-title bout and Buhay Boksingero light flyweight division winner Joebert Alvarez who will tangle with Renren Ruiz.

There will be seven more bouts on the undercard. Fight time is at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, undefeated Philippine superflyweight champion Marvin Mabait (16W-0L-2D,10 KOs) of Zamboanga City will defend his title for the first time against Marco Demecillo Singwangcha (15W-0L-1D, 11KOs) of the RWS Gym of Cebu. This fight card will be held at the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City.

The undercards will have a total of eight bouts featuring Fernando “Batang Bato” Ocon of the RWS gym against Jay-R Estremos of Baguio City (10 rounds), Marlou Sandoval Singwangcha vs. Jonathan Ricablanca (8 rounds) and Jayson Redondo Singwangcha vs. Jayvee Alipio (8 rounds).
