MANILA, Philippines — House Speaker Martin Romualdez on Thursday told leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Korea that differences in geopolitics should not hinder their future prosperity.

He made this remark at the ASEAN-Korea Leaders’ Forum at Jeju International Convention Center in South Korea.

Romualdez represented the Philippines in the event, together with delegates from the House of Representatives.

“We still have ways to go and we will look to partners like the Republic of Korea and those present today in improving these initiatives, and in working together to make sure that the geopolitical challenges of today do not undermine the possible gains of our future,” Romualdez said in his speech.

Romualdez expressed hope the forum will have a fruitful discussion to bring the Philippines closer to its international partners.

“I look forward to substantive discussions on how we, as a collective global community, can ensure peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,” he said.
