MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) is gearing up for the upcoming International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup 2023 that will be held in the country from August to September this year.

“The PNP is fully committed to the success of this prestigious international event. We are working closely with our partner agencies to deliver a memorable experience for everyone involved,” PNP chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. said in a statement.

Acorda recalled similar security measures were carried out during the 2015 APEC Summit, 2015 Papal Visit, 2017 ASEAN Summit, and the 2020 Miss Universe Pageant.

The PNP chief said Security Task Force (STF) FBWC 2023 was organized to serve as the primary body in charge of security operations and public-related safety services during the games.

The Philippine Sports Commission, local government units, stakeholders, and other agencies concerned will assist one another in maintaining peace and order.

Acorda emphasized PNP’s mission is to achieve a “zero incident” during the FIBA event.

He also encouraged locals to support and remain vigilant.

Aside from the Philippines, FBWC 2023 will also be held in Japan and Indonesia.

Philippines is set to host the participants from Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.

3,253 World Cup customer groups are joining.

He added the opening ceremony and games between Angola and Italy, as well as Philippines and Dominican Republic, will be held at the Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria, Sta Maria, Bulacan.
