MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday conveyed his condolences to the family and friends of Negros Oriental Governor Carlo Jorge Joan “Guido” Reyes, who died on May 31, 2023.

Reyes took over the post after then-Governor Roel Degamo’s assassination on March 4, 2023.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Negros Oriental Governor Carlo Jorge Joan “Guido” Reyes on May 31,” Marcos said in a Twitter post.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the people of the province he served so faithfully. May his legacy continue to inspire and his memory be cherished,” he added.

Provincial administrator Karen Lisette Molas announced Reyes’ death after the governor’s daughter confirmed it.

Molas said Reyes died at 61 due to a lingering illness.
