Ex-rebel yields in Oriental Mindoro town

CITY OF CALAPAN — A former New People’s Army (NPA) rebel surrendered on Wednesday to police in Bulalacao town in Oriental Mindoro province, a report from the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) police office said on Thursday, June 1.

“Ka Jomar/Marlo,” 30, surrendered at 7:57 p.m., with a hand grenade, to the Bulalacao police station in Barangay San Roque. The Provincial Intelligence Unit of Oriental Mindoro, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, and Regional Intelligence Unit 4B assisted him.

The surrenderer said he was a member of Komiteng Larangang Gerilya Mark Anthony Velasco (KLG MAV) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA-National Democratic Front.

He will be eligible for the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive and Local Integration Program, which offers cash, free medical treatment, education, housing, and legal aid to rebel surrenderers to help them and their families start new lives.
