MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines is seeking closer cooperation with Canada on cybersecurity, the Department of National Defense said on Tuesday.

Defense Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez Jr. suggested during his meeting with Canadian ambassador David Hartman last week that both countries collaborate on boosting cybersecurity “given the need to secure confidential computer data systems from unauthorized access, data leakage, malware, among others.”

The two countries are currently finalizing the negotiations for a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation, which would serve as a framework for both defense and military establishments in enhancing interoperability and developing necessary capabilities in addressing the security challenges of the region.
