LUCENA CITY — A fire of still unknown origin gutted on Tuesday a three-classroom school building in Batangas City.

The Batangas City public information office said in a report that the fire burned down the building at the Batangas City South Elementary School in the city center.

The report said no one was hurt during the fire that started around 2 a.m. and was put out at 2:43 a.m. by combined efforts of local firemen and volunteers of the Batangas Filipino Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigade Inc.

The initial investigation found that the fire started at the old storage facility and spread to the three classrooms.

Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire and amount of destroyed properties, the report said.

School authorities temporarily canceled classes for the protection of students and teachers.
