LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Classes have been suspended Monday in Batac City and Pasuquin town in Ilocos Norte province on due to Typhoon Betty (international name: Mawar).

In an executive order (EO), Batac Mayor Albert Chua suspended classes from pre-school to secondary level in public and private schools as a safety measure against the possible adverse effects of the typhoon.

In Pasuquin, an EO issued by Mayor Robert Aguinaldo also suspended classes from primary to secondary levels on Monday due to the weather disturbance.

The suspension would remain in effect until the threat of the typhoon is lifted, Aguinaldo said.

The Schools Division of Ilocos Norte (SDIN) also released an advisory for the automatic suspension of in-person classes as the province was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

Citing Department of Education Order No. 037, series of 2022, SDIN said “schools are then advised to shift to modular distance learning (MDL) and/or other distance learning modalities.” INQ
