MANILA, Philippines — The Pier 88 in Liloan, Cebu City, which was unveiled to the public on May 27, will create business opportunities, boost the country’s economic growth, and create more jobs for locals, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said on Sunday.
Romualdez expressed his optimism after witnessing the grand launch of Pier 88, as he commended the local government of Liloan, the private sector, and municipal officials who contributed to the completion of the project.
“The significance of this project cannot be overstated, as it will create countless opportunities for businesses, create job opportunities, and contribute to the overall development of our community,” Romualdez said in a statement.
“This project would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of our government partners, private investors, and, most importantly, the resilience and unwavering support of the people of Liloan,” he added.
According to Romualdez, the project was produced in partnership with the Municipality of Liloan, the Topline Group of Companies, and Pier 88 Ventures, among others.
“The House of Representatives remains firm in our support for the Build Better More infrastructure program of the Marcos administration that would uplift the lives of our people by enhancing the quality of critical infrastructure in our transport sector, digital connectivity, power and energy, and health-related initiatives,” he said.
On May 22, the House of Representatives approved on the third and final reading a consolidated bill providing for a 30-year national infrastructure program from this year until 2052.
House Bill 8078, or the 30-Year National Infrastructure Program Act, aims “to focus on projects of national significance that will serve as the country’s infrastructure backbone.” Its goal is to establish “sustained major infrastructure projects of the national government to be undertaken and implemented by concerned national government agencies and government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) in the fields of transportation, energy, water resources, information and communications technology (ICT), agri-fisheries modernization, food logistics, and social infrastructure.”
The said bill is among the 31 out of the 42 priority Legislative Executive Advisory Council measures of the Marcos administration.
