CITY OF CALAPAN — An alleged former communist rebel voluntarily surrendered with his firearms and bullets to police in San Teodoro town, Oriental Mindoro province, on Saturday, May 27.

This was disclosed in a report from the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) police released Sunday.

According to police, “Ka Deme,” 60, a former member of Milisyang Bayan, surrendered with a caliber .38 gun and two live bullets at 11:40 a.m. to personnel of the 4th Platoon, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the provincial and municipal police.

He is now under police custody and will be assisted to avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive and Local Integration Program (E-Clip).

E-Clip offers free medical treatments, education, housing, and legal aid to rebels who surrender. Each rebel who surrenders can receive cash aid and other benefits to help them and their families start new lives.
