MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal no.1 has been lifted in Batanes as Severe Tropical Storm Betty (international name: Mawar) has weakened further, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday.
In its 11 a.m. update, Pagasa said Betty was spotted some 570 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with a maximum wind speed of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 125 kph.

BAGUIO – Work in government offices in the province of Abra was suspended on Thursday (June 1) due to heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Betty (international name: Mawar).
Acting Gov. Russell Bragas said the suspension covered public offices while classes at all levels in public and private schools remain suspended.

MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Betty (international name: Mawar) has since weakened into a severe tropical storm on Thursday morning and is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the day, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
As of 4 a.m. Thursday, Pagasa said Betty was spotted some 505 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with a maximum wind speed of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

State meteorologists said all remaining Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) hoisted over parts of Luzon will be lifted by Thursday as Typhoon Betty (international name: Mawar) was already heading out of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
“Wind Signals in Babuyan Islands have been lifted. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported on Wednesday that a total of 729 individuals or 185 families in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon were displaced and are now seeking temporary respite in 27 evacuation shelters following Typhoon Betty’s devastation.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the DSWD has partnered with concerned local government units to monitor the evacuees’ conditions and observe 10 other families across two evacuation centers in Western Visayas displaced by monsoon rains.

The number of individuals affected by Typhoon ‘Betty’ (international name ‘Mawar’) has reached over 11,000 persons, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.
Those affected are 11,264 individuals or 2,859 families from 55 barangays within Regions 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central Visayas), and Mimaropa (Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan).

Zamora: Metro Manila readies for Typhoon Betty; 423 low-lying areas being monitored

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Monday said that local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila are ready to brace for the impact of Typhoon Betty (international name: Mawar) as they monitor over 400 identified low-lying areas across the region.

The high oceanic water temperatures in the Pacific, which is often associated with an El Niño-Southern Oscillation phase, can be blamed for the relatively early occurrence of rains and the entry of a super typhoon at this time of the year, state meteorologists said on Friday.
During a press briefing about Super Typhoon Mawar, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) officer-in-charge Dr. Esperanza Cayanan was asked whether or not the early onset of the rainy season and Mawar itself could affect the El Niño predictions made by the weather bureau.

The Manila Electric Company, or Meralco, on Friday, tells the public it is prepared to address power outages that Super Typhoon Mawar may cause.
Mawar is a super typhoon forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday night and is expected to bring heavy rain over several parts of the country.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday said local government units (LGUs) should lead in responding to Super Typhoon Mawar and assured them that the national government would be ready to assist.
According to the state weather bureau, Mawar is anticipated to spawn heavy rain over several parts of the country. It will also enhance the southwest monsoon (locally known as habagat). The super typhoon will be named “Betty” once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility.

Super Typhoon Mawar even stronger as it roars closer to PAR border

Super Typhoon Mawar has slightly intensified as it advances closer to the border of the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Friday noon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Mawar packs a mean punch with 215 kilometers per hour (kph) winds near its core, with gusts charging at 260 kph. Currently positioned 1,705 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, the typhoon is moving westward at 20 kph. Upon entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility, Betty will be locally renamed.

PPA suspends sea trips due to Super Typhoon Mawar

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) on Friday suspended sea trips in several provinces in preparation for the onslaught of Super Typhoon Mawar.
In separate advisories, the PPA explained that its action was meant to give way for preventive maintenance as Mawar approaches the Philippine area of responsibility.

Supertyphoon Mawar not stopping Bacolod chicken inasal festival

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the festival, which would open at 5 p.m. at North Capitol Road in Bacolod, would go on as scheduled.

Super Typhoon Mawar further intensified on Friday morning as it nears the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) and the state weather bureau said it might reach its peak intensity anywhere between 24 and 36 hours from now.
Mawar, named “Betty” once it enters the PAR, was last spotted 1,740 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa: Super typhoon Mawar intensifies as it nears PAR

Super typhoon Mawar has further intensified over the Philippine Sea while swirling towards the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its Thursday evening update, Pagasa, said “Mawar”, of 10:00 p.m. was spotted some 1.840 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, with increased maximum sustained winds of from 195 kilometers per hour (kph) to 205 kph and gustiness of from 240 kph to 250 kph while moving west at 20 kph.
AFP tapping over 12,000 troops for typhoon relief operations as ‘Mawar’ nears

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Thursday said it will tap over 12,000 tropps to assist in the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) in areas expected to be affected by the approaching super typhoon Mawar.
“Vehicles and personnel are already being prepared to assist in the mandatory evacuation of residents in vulnerable areas. Air and naval assets are also on standby for deployment for future aerial assessment, transport, and evacuation operations,” the AFP said in a statement.
DSWD sends 1 million food packs to regions in preparation for Mawar

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has now deployed 1,005,472 family food packs and 307,664 non-food items to areas likely to be affected by approaching Super Typhoon Mawar.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian revealed this and the agency’s contingency measures during an inter-agency meeting at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Thursday.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday said it has begun gearing up for the possible onslaught of super typhoon “Mawar,” assuring the public of close coordination among government agencies and local government units (LGUs).
To recall, Mawar is currently spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility but is expected to enter by Friday.

Super Typhoon Mawar, heading toward the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), may bring about monsoon rain over parts of Luzon and Visayas next week, state meteorologists said Thursday.
“Mawar is forecast to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and may trigger monsoon rains over the western portions of Luzon and Visayas beginning on Sunday or Monday,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 a.m. weather bulletin.

A typhoon (international name: Mawar) approaching the Philippine area of responsibility intensified into a super typhoon again on Thursday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
“Patuloy na lumakas ang tropical cyclone na si Mawar. Kung kahapon typhoon ito, ngayon ay lumakas muli into super typhoon,” Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said in a report.
Typhoon Mawar to regain supertyphoon status on Thursday at earliest

Mawar, a typhoon approaching the Philippine area of responsibility, could re-intensify into a supertyphoon by Thursday at the earliest, the state meteorologists said.
“Mawar is forecast to re-intensify within the next 3 days and may regain its super typhoon status by tomorrow at the earliest,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 p.m. update on Wednesday.
