MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has now deployed 1,005,472 family food packs and 307,664 non-food items to areas likely to be affected by approaching Super Typhoon Mawar.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian revealed this and the agency’s contingency measures during an inter-agency meeting at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Thursday.
On Tuesday, the DSWD reported delivering 689,885 family food packs as of May 23.
DSWD Special Assistant to the Secretary Marlon Alagao previously disclosed that Mawar is expected to travel north, possibly affecting the country’s northwestern regions.
Mawar is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility this weekend, and would be designated the local name “Betty,” according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
