BACOLOD CITY — The Talisay City government in Negros Occidental has destroyed 119 open-pipe motorcycle mufflers with the use of a backhoe on Tuesday, May 23.

Executive Assistant Jerome Bagtas, deputy chief of the city’s Traffic Management Authority, said the mufflers were confiscated for causing noise pollution.

Talisay City Ordinance 589 Series of 2018 prohibits public and private vehicles from using noisy mufflers.

The ordinance sets the following penalties: a fine P500 for first offense, P1,000 for second offense, P3,000 and confiscation of muffler for the third offense, and P5,000 or imprisonment of not more than three months or both depending on the discretion of the court for the succeeding offenses.
