KNF Design benefited from an unfortunate incident and ended with the Inter-Company title of the Kick-Off 2012, the first football tournament for a cause, which came to an end yesterday at the San Roque football field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
KNF Design edged Xlibris A, 1-0, in the semifinals and would have advanced to the finals against Convergy’s.
However, a free-for-all during the semifinals match between the Convergys and Innodata made the organizers decide to award the championship to KNF Design and the runner-up honors to Xlibris A.
Convergys was leading 1-0 when one of its players punched a booter from Innodata in the dying minutes of the match.
Innodata was manned by San Roque booters.
Spectators who were mostly from San Roque got angry about the incident and retaliated by chasing the Convergys player, who was immediately secured by the referees of the Cebu Football Association (CFA).
For the team’s safety, organizers decided not to let Convergys play in the finals.
Eugene Ynclino III, who heads the CFA referees committee, said that the organizers decided to have the Convergys-Innodata match abandoned and to default both teams.
Ynclino explained the situation to Convergys, who agreed with the decision for their own safety.
The men’s open title went to the San Roque Football Club (SRFC) after a 2-0 blanking of Subangdaku Football Club (SFC).
Melbourne FC bagged the women’s open title after posting the most number of wins. The category was played in a league-type format.
