COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila down to 25.2%
MANILA, Philippines — The seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila has decreased to 25.2% from the previous week’s 26.1%, Octa Research fellow Dr. Guido David said on Monday
“It looks like the trend has peaked. Hospital occupancy also decreased from 29.7% to 28.8% (over the same period),” David said.
Despite this, Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate is still five times higher than the World Health Organization’s ideal threshold of only 5%.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positivity rate in the country also decreased to 23.9% on Monday from Sunday’s 24.1%.
Article continues after this advertisementThis rate reflected the Department of Health’s daily COVID-19 tally on Thursday when it registered 1,637 new infections, 612 of which were logged in Metro Manila.
“Projecting 900 to 1,000 new cases on May 23, 2023,” David said.

As of May 22, the DOH online COVID-19 Tracker, a total nationwide caseload of 4,129,165 cases, with 16,053 of them active, 4,056,746 recoveries, and 66,466 deaths.
Last April, DOH officer in charge Maria Rosario Vergeire explained that increases and decreases in the number of infections could be expected due to the lower number of tests conducted and the country’s increased mobility.
