MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila or the National Capital Region (NCR) was “almost flat” at 25.7 percent as of May 20.

Octa Research fellow David Guido said on Twitter that the latest estimate could indicate a decreasing infection this week.

On Sunday, David reported that Metro Manila’s coronavirus positivity rate was 25.4 percent on May 13 and 25.7 percent a week later.

“In NCR, it was almost flat from 25.4% to 25.7%, suggesting that it may be decreasing this week,” he said.

David noted the high positivity rates in Bataan, Batangas, Benguet, Bulacan, Cagayan, Camarines Sur, Cavite, Isabela, La Union, Laguna, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Quezon, Rizal, Tarlac, and Zambales.

Nationwide, nevertheless, the COVID-19 positivity rate slightly decreased from 24.3 percent as of May 20 to 24.1 percent as of May 21, David added.

Citing the latest data from the Department of Health, David said 1,912 new cases had been recorded across the country and that most of them were from Metro Manila (689), Cavite (156), Laguna (100), Rizal (100), Bulacan (89), Iloilo (69), Batangas (61), Pampanga (52), Benguet (32), Quezon (32), Cebu (31), Camarines Sur (29), Isabela (27), Bataan (25), and Negros Occidental (25).

He also said that based on the latest DOH figures, 1,400 to 1,600 new COVID-19 cases may be recorded for May 22.

As of May 21, the Philippines had 4,127,628 COVID-19 infections, 16,422 active cases, 4,044,740 recoveries, and 66,466 fatalities.
