MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 positivity rate nationwide reached 24.3 percent as of May 20, according to Octa Research fellow Guido David.
David said this latest estimate reflected the Department of Health’s (DOH) report of a slight increase in new coronavirus cases – 2,106 on March 20 from 2,014 (24.1 percent) on May 18.
He then surmised that based on the mentioned figures, 1,700 to 1,900 new COVID-19 infections may be recorded this Sunday, May 21.

David cited a DOH report indicating that as of May 19, provinces and regions with the most number of fresh COVID-19 cases were the National Capital Region or Metro Manila (796), Cavite (174), Laguna (125), and Rizal (122).
Following these areas were Bulacan (83), Iloilo (71), Camarines Sur (54), Batangas (46), Cebu (37), Pampanga (37), Camarines Norte (35), Davao del Sur (34), Cagayan (33), Benguet (26), and Nueva Vizcaya (26).
On Saturday, the DOH said the total count of confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide reached 4,125,716 including 16,503 active cases and 66,466 deaths.
