MMDA taps actor Ria Atayde as new spokesperson

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday said it has recommended Ria Atayde as its new spokesperson.

In a press briefing, MMDA acting chair Don Artes said she recommended Ria Atayde to Malacañang, citing her degree in Communication Arts and her experience.

“I personally recruited Miss Ria Atayde, who graciously agreed,” said Artes.

“I submitted yung (the) application and endorsement sa (to) Malacanang for Miss Atayde to be the spokesperson ng (of the) MMDA,” he added.

Currently, Atty. Mel Caranongan serves as the spokesperson for MMDA, but only in the officer-in-charge capacity, as there is still an empty Assistant Secretary seat meant for the spokesperson.

According to Artes, Atayde, being a celebrity, would help the agency disseminate information.

He also added Atayde is an “empowered woman,” which the agency needs.

“I personally believe she will be an asset in MMDA. That’s why ako mismo ang nag-ask sa kaniya kung pwede siya maging spokesperson ng MMDA (I personally asked her to be the spokesperson for MMDA),” Artes said.
