Hold meet to remind drivers about road safety – Rama
CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama said he wanted to organize a drivers summit to remind drivers about road use and safety.
Rama said he also planned to buy a drug and alcohol testing machine, which can determine if a driver is under the influence of liquor.
Rama’s moves came after a Singapore-based Filipina nurse was killed in last Tuesday’s road crash involving an ambulance and a pickup truck driven by a student who had drank liquor.
Rama said he ordered City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) head Rafael Yap last Holy Wednesday to organize a multisectoral gathering to discuss driving and other related concerns.
“We will fund the seminar if there is a need for the city government to come in,” the mayor said.
Rama said that lack of information on the ABC’s of driving is one of the main causes of congestion and traffic accidents in the city.

He said the planned summit would be similar to a refresher course reminding them especially about traffic laws.
“Traffic consciousness and understanding regarding the ABC’s of driving is very important for all drivers,” said Rama.
