MANILA, Philippines — Two fishermen were hurt after a fire hit a fishing vessel before submerging off Cuyo, Palawan, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Tuesday.

PCG-Eastern Palawan personnel and elements of Cuyo Municipal Police Station responded after FV (fishing vessel) Victory 89 caught fire on Monday.

“Ngunit matapos ang ilang oras na pagaapula ng apoy, ang nasabing fishing vessel ay tuluyan nang lumubog,” the Coast Guard Eastern Palawan said in a Facebook post.

(But after a few hours of fire-extinguishing efforts, the fishing vessel eventually submerged.)

Due to the incident, PCG said the two crew sustained first-degree burns.

“Bukod dito, wala ng naitalang napahamak o naaksidente sa mga nagresponde at tripulante,” it also said.

(Aside from them, no accidents were reported among respondents and crew.)

PCG said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Oil spill booms were also laid out within the vicinity of the incident.
