MANILA, Philippines —A total of 267 prisoners who have mostly served their sentences were released on Monday from various penal facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) nationwide.

The bureau’s record showed this batch had the highest number of so-called persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) set fee in one day.

128 of the PDLs were released from New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

Forty-four (44) were from Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Panabo, Davao.

Forty (40) were from San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City.

Twenty-two (22) were from Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.

Fourteen (14) were from Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte.

Ten were from Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro.

Nine were from Ihawig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Almost half of the total number of prisoners (124) were on parole.

Thirty six (36) were acquitted.

The jail term of seventy-two (72) of them were under expiration for maximum sentence with Good Conduct Time Allowance.

Seven were granted probation.

“May pag asa pa kayo makabalik sa lipunan na tatanggap sa inyo at kayo po ay tatanggapin ng maayos [There is still hope for you to reintegrate into a society that will accept you, and you will be accepted properly],” Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

The newly-released prisoners were given transportation assistance, a hygiene pack, a bag of groceries and financial aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)
