MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said a Taiwanese man wanted for alleged large-scale fraud in Taipei is set to be deported after his arrest in Manila.
In a statement on Sunday, the BI said the bureau’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) arrested suspect Yin Chih Chou, 40, inside a condominium unit along Adriatico St., Ermita, on May 11.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco issued a mission order upon request of the Taiwanese authorities.
Rendel Ryan Sy, acting BI-FSU chief, said the Taiwan Hsinchu district prosecutor’s office issued a warrant of arrest against the suspect two months before he departed for the Philippines.
According to the BI, Chou allegedly extorted money from his victims using dummy accounts.
He then used the money to buy fine goods and luxury items at bargain prices.
The BI said Chou has been overstaying in the country since he first arrived on July 19, 2018.
He also remained undocumented as the Taiwanese government revoked his passport.
“He will be deported as soon as our board of commissioners issues the order for his summary deportation. He will then be included in our blacklist and perpetually banned from re-entering the Philippines,” Tansingco said.
The suspect is currently detained at the BI’s holding facility while awaiting deportation proceedings. — Maria Liezl Projella, INQUIRER.net trainee
