“From our discussions, I could confidently say the IMF mission members were impressed with the Philippines’ economic performance and government’s economic agenda. They expressed confidence the Philippines will continue to grow strongly in the years ahead,” he added.

Romualdez quoted IMF mission chief Jay Peiris as having agreed with the Marcos administration’s goals and reforms.

In a statement, the Speaker quoted Peiris as having said,“everything is going in the right direction. Philippine economy is solid, though the country should be ready to respond to any shock.”

Aside from Peiris, Romualdez also talked with IMF resident representative Ragnar Gudmundsson, Senior Economist Yinqiu Lu, and Economist Tristan Hennig.

Romualdez was joined in the meeting by Marikina 2nd District Rep. Stella Quimbo and House Secretary General Reginald Velasco.
