Pagasa: Cloudy Friday, rain possible in PH

/ 07:29 AM May 12, 2023

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau said that moderately cloudy to cloudy skies are seen to prevail over most parts of the country this Friday as rain due to localized thunderstorms and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is also possible, especially in Visayas and Mindanao.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said rain, lightning, and thunder may occur as these are effects of ITCZ affecting southern Mindanao.

The ITCZ is the convergence between winds from the northern and southern hemispheres, according to Pagasa.

(Throughout the day, we can expect that here in Metro Manila and the rest of our country, the sky will be partly cloudy to cloudy and there are still chances of isolated rain showers, lightning, and thunder that will be more frequent even here in the Visayas and Mindanao because of the axis of the ITCZ.)

Del Mundo also said that Luzon may anticipate moderately overcast to overcast skies with chances of scattered rain especially by Friday afternoon and evening.

Similarly, Visayas and Mindanao may expect moderately cloudy to cloudy skies but with increased localized thunderstorms relative to Luzon due to the ITCZ.

Del Mundo further noted that there are low chances of storms in the country over the weekend as Pagasa is not currently monitoring any low pressure areas within or outside of the Philippine area of responsibility.

Likewise, Pagasa did not raise any gale warning over any seaboards of the country.
