MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila’s COVID-19 positivity rate slightly rose to 24.9 percent as of May 11, said Octa Research fellow David Guido on Thursday.
The rate is slightly higher than on May 10, which was at 24.2 percent.
“NCR (National Capital Region) has a hospital bed occupancy of 28.3 percent as of the same date, from 25.5 percent on May 3,” said David.
David previously said that the COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila is expected to peak in one or two weeks time.
Nationwide positivity rate at 23.1%
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 positivity rate in the country rose to 23.1 percent on May 11 from the previous day’s 22.4 percent.
This came after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 1,940 new infections, 824 of which logged in Metro Manila alone.
As of May 11, based on the DOH’s online COVID-19 tracker, the country’s total caseload is at 4,108,914 with 13,964 active cases, 4,028,497 recoveries and 66,453 deaths.
It should be noted, however, then even amid a relatively high positivity rate, DOH officer in charge Maria Rosario Vergeire during said that the positivity rate is not the sole criterion on the country’s COVID-19 situation, adding that the increase and decreases in the number of infections are expected due to the lower number of tests conducted, as well as the country’s increased mobility.
Vergeire also assured the public that the country’s health utilization rate remains low.
