MANILA, Philippines — The seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate jumped to 24.2 percent in Metro Manila and 22.4 percent nationwide, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said Wednesday.
Metro Manila’s positivity rate is almost five percent higher than the 19.7 percent recorded on May 2., while the current nationwide rate jumped by 5.2 percent from 17.2 percent a week ago.
“Exceeding 25 percent is almost a given at this time. We still expect the peak to happen within 1 to 2 weeks,” said David, referring to Metro Manila cases.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday logged 1,476 new cases nationwide.
“Projecting 1,900 to 2,100 new cases on May 11, 2023,” said David.

Of the 1,476 new cases, 621 were recorded in Metro Manila, according to David.
Meanwhile, hospital bed occupancy continued to remain low at 27 percent.
As of May 10, based on the DOH’s online COVID-19 tracker, the country’s total caseload is at 4,106,974 with 12,706 active cases, 4,027,815 recoveries and 66,543 deaths.
DOH officer – in – charge Maria Rosario Vergeire earlier stressed, however, that the positivity rate is not the sole criterion for the country’s COVID-19 situation, adding that the increase and decrease in the number of infections are expected due to the lower number of tests conducted, as well as the population’s increased mobility.
