MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has approved the promotion of eight Philippine National Police senior police officials, who were formally appointed to their new posts as major generals and brigadier generals on Tuesday.
“I wish to inform you that, per the endorsement of the chairperson of the Civil Service Commission and as recommended by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) […], the promotion of Police Colonel Redrico Atienza Maranan to the next higher rank of Police Brigadier General is hereby approved,” Marcos’ letter addressed to Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said.
Aside from Maranan — who currently serves as PNP’s chief information officer — other officials who were promoted to brigadier generals were Lex Ephraim Gurat, Victor Arevalo, Alfredo Dangani, and Roderick Mariano.
On the other hand, Harold Tuzon, Victor Wanchakan, and Rudolph Dimas became major generals.
Gurat currently serves as the National Capital Region Police Office chief directorial staff.
Arevalo heads the Center for Police Strategy Management, while Mariano is the Police Regional Office 13’s (Caraga) number two man.
Meanwhile, Tuzon and Wanchakan are with the Area Police Command for Eastern Mindanao and Western Mindanao.
Dimas is a member of the Special Action Force.
The promotion of eight Philippine National Police senior police officials was led by PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. at Camp Crame, Quezon City.
It was delayed due to the investigation of all third-level officers of the police force in line with the PNP’s internal cleansing efforts to eliminate ranking officials with drug ties.
