DOH: Weekly COVID-19 cases more than double at 9,465; 9 new deaths reported

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it logged  9,465 new COVID-19 infections from May 1 to 7, twice the number recorded the previous week which was only at 4,456.

According to the DOH’s latest weekly report, the infections translated to a daily average of 1,352 or 112 percent higher than the 637 daily average cases recorded from April 24 to 30.

This is also already higher and is also twice the daily infections projected by the DOH by May 15 at 289 to 611.

Fifty percent of the total recorded infections were also tagged as critical or severe, with active critical or severe COVID-19 admissions currently at 410.

Nine deaths were also tallied by the DOH, while no deaths were recorded the previous week. 

Meanwhile, the utilization of ICU beds increased from 15 to 16.5 percent, as well as non-ICU bed utilization rate from 18.1 to 21.2 percent during the same period.

Based on the DOH’s online COVID-19 tracker as of May 7, the Philippines has so far logged 4,102,788 COVID-19 cases (11,408 active cases) with 4,024,927 recoveries and 66,453 deaths.
