OWWA: Bodies of 4 Filipinos who died in Taiwan food factory fire return to PH
MANILA, Philippines — Bodies of the four Filipino migrant workers who died in the fire that hit a food factory in Changhua County in Taiwan arrived in the Philippines on Sunday, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said.
“Nailabas na sa Pairpags Cargo ang labi ng [apat] nating kababayan na nasawi sa sunog ng isang factory sa Taiwan. Ang mga labi ay agad na inendorso sa [apat] na regional offices ng OWWA papauwi sa kanilang probinsya,” the OWWA said in a Facebook post.

Last April 27, Manila Economic and Cultural Office (Meco) chief Silvestre Bello III revealed that four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) died in the fire that struck a food factory in Taiwan. Bello said three died due to suffocation while the other died while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital.
Belo also said that four other OFWs survived the fire with minor injuries.

Article continues after this advertisementIn a separate post, OWWA and Meco officials present during the arrival of the four bodies in Parañaque City on Sunday morning extended their condolences to the victims’ families and assured them of aid.
Bello earlier said that Lian Hwa Foods Corporation provided medical assistance to Filipinos affected by the fire incident while the Taiwan government vowed to provide 100,000 NTD for every casualty.
As for the Philippine government, it said that the families of the deceased will get a total of P220,000 as death and burial benefits while the children of the dead migrant workers will be given education assistance.
