The camp of Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes is stepping up talks with Rep. Luis Quisumbing for a political alliance for next year’s elections.
Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede said there was a “99 percent chance” that Quisumbing, who is seeking reelection in the 6th district, “willl be joining the lineup under the Liberal Party.”’Quisumbing ran under the One Cebu party of Gov. Gwen Garcia in 2010.
Sought for comment, Quisumbing only said “I believe in the sincerity of the President in instituting reforms and strongly support his vision for ‘Matuwid na Daan.”
Mayor Cortes, who is gearing for reelection, said it was his dream to unite big political families in Mandaue and achieve “political peace”. Cortes, an LP member, said he would follow the party’s directions for the 2013 election. He had no direct comment on Quisumbing’s role, but to say they were working together for projects that benefit Mandaue City. Correspondent Norman mendoza and Fe Marie Dumaboc
