Speaker Romualdez congratulates King Charles III, hopes for deeper PH-UK relationship

Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez has expressed his warmest congratulations to the newly crowned monarchs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, King Charles III and Queen Camila.

In a press release, Speaker Romualdez shared his delight in being a witness to this rare piece of world history, and expressed his prayers for a deeper and more meaningful relationship between the Philippines and the United Kingdom for years to come.

The ceremony was held at Westminster Abbey in London and officiated by the highest Church official in England, the Archbishop of Canterbury.

King Charles III ascended to the throne eight months ago, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.

The Speaker, who is currently in the UK together with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., also shared his hopes for the reign of the new monarchs, wishing them the best of health and love and expressing his desire for their rule to be guided by faith, love, integrity, and equality.

Speaker Romualdez’s message of congratulations and well-wishes was shared with the delegation of President Marcos, who arrived in the UK a day before the coronation.

They were welcomed by representatives of King Charles III and the Philippine Ambassador to the UK Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr.

During his visit, President Marcos took the opportunity to inspect the London Gatwick Airport and gather ideas for the improvement of the Philippines’ own airports and its system of tourist arrivals. He also met with G. Bayo Ogunlesi, chairman of US-based Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), a company that seeks to invest in the Philippines in the areas of energy, transportation, and digital infrastructure.

The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camila is an event of great significance, and Speaker Romualdez’s message of congratulations reflects the importance of the occasion. As the world looks on, the Philippines joins in wishing the new monarchs of the United Kingdom the best of health and a reign guided by the values of faith, love, integrity, and equality.
