MANILA, Philippines — Several parts of Palawan and provinces within Visayas and Mindanao may experience cloudy skies and rain showers this weekend due to the low-pressure area (LPA) west of the country, the state weather bureau said on Friday.

Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the LPA located 75 kilometers west-northwest of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan still brings thick cloud bands over waters west of Western Visayas and over the landmass of Zamboanga Peninsula.

Rain showers are also expected over northern and central Mindanao, along with other parts of Visayas, due to the LPA and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

Pagasa said that Luzon might also experience isolated rain showers because of the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.

As for the LPA on the eastern side still has not made its way into the Philippine area of responsibility.  It was last seen 1,295 kilometers east of Northern Mindanao, embedded along the ITCZ.
