SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—Former Mayor Jonathan Tan of Pandan town in Antique province took his oath of office on Wednesday as the new chairperson and administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), the agency administering the Subic Bay Freeport announced.

President Marcos appointed Tan on April 28, replacing Rolen Paulino, who filed his courtesy resignation last month.

Tan, 46, became the ninth head of the SBMA who will have a fixed term of six years. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin administered Tan’s oath of office in Malacañang.

Tan, according to the SBMA, is a businessman and politician who served as mayor of Pandan from 2010 to 2019. He was named one of the country’s most outstanding mayors in 2012.

Tan also served as president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Antique.
