MANILA, Philippines — Police Col. Hansel Marantan has been reinstated to his previous post as NCR Regional Chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) effective May 1.
The bemedaled Marantan won praises from senators and local politicians for his effective handling of cases of violence, the latest of which was the March 4 massacre of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and eight other people.
Marantan was reinstated on orders of CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. after the colonel testified at the April 19 Senate committee hearing in the presence of Senators Ronald dela Rosa, Francis Tolentino, and JV Ejercito.
Marantan had served and enforced the 13 search warrants on the home and properties of Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., which led to the arrest of six suspects and the filing of murder cases against them, including Teves, the suspected mastermind of the Degamo killing.
Marantan earlier resigned from his post for command responsibility after his men were implicated in an alleged “hulidap” or robbery and extortion on Chinese nationals during a Parañaque raid.
Marantan and his men were later cleared by the Chinese nationals of any irregularities in connection with the raid.
