Hose on fire sparks fuel tank fire; 2 hurt

The summer heat could have caused a portion of a fuel tanker to spew flames, resulting in injuries to two men who were loading gasoline in the vehicle before noon Friday in Quezon City.

SFO2 Fortunato Alde of the Quezon City Police District said the incident occurred at around 11:45 a.m. at City Oil station along Araneta Avenue.

“The truck was being loaded with gasoline when the hose suddenly burst into flames. We believe the heat of the sun at that time could have triggered a reaction on the oil and started a fire,” Alde said.

The truck driver, Eddie Magada, 42 and his helper, Jerome Nava, 24, were injured in the incident. Both are employees of BMS Development Company.
