P7.4-M marijuana plants uprooted, burned in Kalinga

Police and anti-drug agents uprooted and burned about P7.4 million worth of fully grown marijuana plants in four plantation sites in Tinglayan, Kalinga on Saturday and Sunday (April 29 and 30).

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Police and anti-drug agents uprooted and burned about P7.4 million worth of fully grown marijuana plants in four plantation sites in Tinglayan, Kalinga on Saturday and Sunday (April 29 and 30).

Police Captain Ruff Manganip, Kalinga police information officer, said about 22,500 marijuana plants were found in two plantations in Barangay (village) Buscalan while 14,700 fully grown plants were also discovered in two plantations in Barangay Butbut.

Manganip said the law enforcers discovered that the marijuana plants were planted in a public land, which is considered as a communal forest.

Police are still investigating who is involved in the cultivation of marijuana in the area as no caretakers were arrested. Villamor Visaya Jr.
