N. Korea rocket launch breached UN resolution–Russia

/ 02:50 PM April 13, 2012

MOSCOW — North Korea’s failed attempt to launch a rocket into orbit breached a UN Security Council resolution, Russian foreign ministry official told the Interfax news agency Friday.

“The UN Security Council resolution 1874 directly demands that North Korea desist from any launches using ballistic missiles. This applies to both military and civilian launches,” the unnamed official said.

North Korea admitted Friday its heralded long-range rocket launch had failed, disintegrating mid-air and plunging into the sea soon after take-off in a major embarrassment for the reclusive state.
