MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has extended the SIM registration deadline by 90 days after April 26, as approved during a sectoral meeting in Malacañang on SIM card registration.
Malacañang added that Marcos had directed the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to announce the extension publicly.
“President Marcos Jr. approves the 90-day extension of SIM registration after the 26 April 2023 deadline,” the RTVM said.
“Failure to register within the given period of extension will result [in] limited SIM services from the telecommunication companies,” it added.
The SIM card registration extension was announced by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla for 90 days, as allowed by the SIM Registration Act. Failure to register within the registration period of 120 days will result in the automatic deactivation of the SIM.
“The deactivated SIM may only be reactivated after registration; provided, however, that reactivation shall be made not later that five (5) days after such automatic deactivation,” the law read.
Social media and other mobile network services will be inaccessible for unregistered SIM cards after April 26, according to Remulla.
