MANILA, Philippines — The Malate Church was declared an important cultural property by the National Museum of the Philippines, the Manila Public Information Office said over the weekend.
“The National Museum of the Philippines declared Malate Church as an important cultural property in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 374 and Republic Act No. 10066,” the Manila PIO said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
This milestone was celebrated through a marker which was unveiled on Saturday.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan also witnessed the unveiling of the marker and declaration.
Under RA No. 10066, the 435-year-old Mexican-Baroque-styled church in Malate was qualified under the category of Spanish colonial-era church complexes, according to the city’s PIO.
