MANILA, Philippines –  Minimize outdoor activities especially at mid-day and take extra precautions if the same cannot be avoided as sizzling hot weather is again expected on Saturday, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Servioces Administration (Pagasa), in its early morning update, said that the maximum temperature in Metro Manila is forecast at 35 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

“Magiging mainit at maalinsangan pa rin ang panahon lalong lalo na sa tanghali, kaya hangga’t maaari po ay limitahan lamang ‘yung ating mga outdoor activities. At kung hindi naman maiiwasan, ay huwag po nating kalilimutan ‘yung pananggalang natin sa direktang init ng araw,” said Pagasa weather specialist Grace Castañeda.

(It will again be hot and humid especially at noon, so limit outdoor activities as much as possible. If this is unavoidable, however, do not forget to protect yourself against direct sunlight.)

“Kung magiging mahaba rin yung exposure natin sa init ng araw ay ugaliin po nating magpahinga or sumilong from time to time, and wag nating kalilimutan yung pag-inom ng tubig upang maiwasan po natin yung panganib na maaaring idulot ng init ng panahon sa ating kalusugan,” she added.

(If you expect prolonged sun exposure, make it a habit to rest and seek shelter from time to time. Remain hydrated to deter heat-related health risks.)

In its five-day heat index forecast, Pagasa said Saturday’s highest heat index is 39 degrees Celsius in Cabanatuan City, followed by the 38 degree Celsius in Dagupan City, General Santos City, Pasay City, Parañaque City, City of Manila, Quezon City and Tacloban City.

Cebu-based Pagasa weather specialist Jhomer Eclarino previously explained that heat index temperatures ranging between 38 to 45 degrees Celsius fall under Pagasa’s Extreme Caution and Danger category.
