MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off Davao Occidental on Friday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tectonic tremor, which occurred 292 kilometers Southeast of Balut Island at around 6:21 p.m., has a depth of 151 kilometers, according to state seismologists.
Phivolcs said the earthquake is not seen to cause damage, but aftershocks may be expected.
No felt intensities and instrumental intensities were recorded, it added.
